CBD is an extract from Industrial Hemp, the female version of Cannabis Sativa L. It does not contain psychotropic properties, so while it cannot get you high it can provide you with soothing, anti-inflammatory benefits for your mind and body.

While it can often come from marijuana plants, CBD itself is not marijuana. To understand this, it’s important to understand the difference between marijuana and hemp. Hemp refers to cannabis plants which contain less than .3% THC, whereas marijuana distinguishes cannabis plants with a THC count over 0.3%.

Keep in mind: CBD can come from either one, but CBD oils need to be less than .3% THC, so if it’s extracted from a marijuana plant, the THC will need to be removed. For this reason, most CBD products in the United States are derived from Hemp.

Hemp extract is another word for CBD, as hemp itself is rich in CBD while low in THC. Hemp extract, or CBD, is taken from the stems, leaves and flowers of hemp, while hemp oil comes from the seeds. Hemp seeds do not contain CBD or THC; instead, they are made up of nutritious fatty acids, such as gamma linolenic acid, which is anti-inflammatory. Hemp seeds also have the ideal 3:1 ratio of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, which can contribute to the health of your heart, skin, hair and nails.

While the CBD in hemp extract makes it a strong option as a medicinal treatment, hemp oil is best for wellness and nutrition.

You would want a Broad Spectrum CBD Hemp product because it’s the happy medium between CBD isolate and full spectrum CBD products. CBD isolate is CBD in its purest form; that is to say, there are no traces of the cannabinoids which are found in cannabis.

Full Spectrum CBD, on the other hand, is when CBD contains a presence of all the cannabinoids, including THC, albeit in small quantities. Full spectrum CBD is often recommended because when administered, all of the cannabinoids work together and can optimize pain and anxiety relief--this is known as “the entourage effect.”

Some people want to experience the benefits of the entourage effect, but do not feel comfortable with any level of THC in their products. This is where broad spectrum CBD becomes useful: broad spectrum CBD is CBD with all of the Cannabinoids except for THC. While THC can be beneficial in pain relief, the entourage effect can still occur without its presence.

Depending on the individual, there may be a possibility of some side effects, including dry mouth, nausea, diarrhea, and fatigue. However, these symptoms are often a reaction to the carrier oil, and not the CBD itself. If you experience any such side effects, try lowering your dosage by half. If these symptoms persist, it might be beneficial to try a CBD product in a different carrier oil before ruling it out as a solution altogether.

One of the most popular uses of MCT is for its weight loss benefits, as it may help you burn fat more quickly, but it also may be useful in reducing the seizures of epilepsy patients. On top of this, MCT oil may additionally help reduce risks of heart disease, alzheimer’s disease, and diabetes. For these reasons, MCT oil is a popular choice for a carrier oil in CBD products.
